Children MUST be in school on time. When a child arrives late for school they miss the introduction to the day and valuable learning time. It is also vital that children are collected on time at the end of the day. Being late for school and being picked up late can also be very distressing for the child. Punctuality is monitored very closely on a weekly basis. Children are expected to be in school every day. If a child is away, a reason for this absence must be given to the class teacher or the office. When attendance falls below 90% parents will be notified and their child’s attendance scrutinised very carefully. Attendance is monitored very closely on a weekly basis. By the time a child is 5, parents have a legal responsibility to get their child to school regularly which is deemed by the government to mean at least 96%, any statistic lower than this is considered to be inadequate. If it falls below 85% the Education Welfare Officer will be notified and appropriate action will be taken. If a child’s absence does fall below this level they are considered to be persistently absent. We also ask that ALL medical appointments are made before and after school – thank you! It is really important that children are at school regularly. Under Section 36 of the Education Act 1944, parents of children of compulsory school age are required to ensure that they receive full-time education. It is parents’ responsibility to inform schools of the reason for a child’s absence as soon as possible. If no reason is given, this is counted as an unauthorised absence, i.e. truancy, and will be followed up accordingly. The school Attendance percentage is improving however there is still room for improvement. Currently, the school’s attendance is 94% on average. Pupils’ punctuality is still not good enough and needs to improve further. Children must be in school by 8.40am and punctuality is also monitored closely. Continuous lateness or a high level of absence will result in a referral to the Education Welfare Service.

It is very important that your child is brought to and collected from school on time.
